Do you know how brilliant you really are?

Where are you at with your personal development? Are you fulfilling your potential or are you dissatisfied with your life, your career, your business? Do you want something different? Something that excites you and makes you leap out of bed every morning? Something that will enable you to grow as a person and find more meaning in your life? What are your thoughts on personal development?

Think differently so you do different things and get different results

If you’re big into personal development and are absolutely where you want to be, then that is fabulous. The fact is that we all have the ability to be brilliant. But if we want to have something different, we have to do something different. And in order to do something different, we have to think differently. Because everything we do is a result of the way we think. Our beliefs, our skills, our values, our identity and our environment (the people and places that influence us) all impact how we think, and therefore what we do.

For example, if we have a belief that no one will listen to our opinion, then our actions (what we do) will reflect that and we’ll never bother voicing an opinion. On the other hand, if we believe we are capable of achieving greatness, our actions will reflect that too.

So how do we get to think differently so that we do different things and so get different results in our lives and realise how brilliant we really are?

The easiest way is to read and learn. Personal development is crucial if you want more in your life than you have right now.

The importance of personal development

Through reading, you get new ideas and inspirations. And when you apply what you learn through reading into your everyday life, you will inevitably achieve different results.

As Albert Einstein said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results”.

And as Jim Rohn said, “All the successful people with whom I have had contact are good readers. They read, read, read. It’s their curiosity that drives them to read. They simply have to know. They constantly seek new ways to become better. Here is a good phrase to remember: All Leaders are Readers.”

My own story

In 2013 I was in a job role I’d been doing for almost 20 years, over and over but just in different organisations. I earned a great salary but I was bored. The culture I worked in was toxic. I worked hard but I had no voice and my skills weren’t recognised. I knew I had to leave. I knew I was stifling and underachieving and it frustrated me. I lacked imagination at that time to think of anything different to do and found myself applying for the same kind of job again. What I didn’t realise at the time was that I was being a victim!

Then I received out of the blue an opportunity to build my own business coaching business. What made me take the plunge, to quit the salary and set up my own business was the exciting realisation that I could give up blaming my employer and my manager for the unhappiness and boredom I was living with and take full responsibility and ownership for my life and happiness. I would learn new things, do new things and have a completely different life doing something meaningful and deeply satisfying. I would be helping business owners in our local economy grow their businesses but, more importantly, get more out of life – have more time and more money and growing as human beings in the process. It definitely felt like a win-win opportunity. So I did it!

And while I grow my self and my business, I help others do the same.

Too many of us live our lives underachieving, not realising our full potential. I wasted so many years in that place. My aim now is to help people step up and share their brilliance.

And it’s an amazing, exciting and thrilling journey I’m on. I’ve learned so much in the last 5 years – not just from books of course but they have a huge place in my personal development – and have grown massively as a result. I’ve met and had the greatest privilege of working with and helping to grow amazing people, business owners and their teams. And I’m still learning every day.

The key to my personal and business transformation has been personal development through reading, reflecting, personally and with other like-minded people, and applying my learning into my life – with the help of my coach of course.

As ActionCOACH founder and chairman, Brad Sugars, says, “Where you’ll be in 5 years’ time will depend on the books you read, the people you associate with and the Action you take”.

So here I am, 5 years later.

Launching our Business Book Club

Now I want to share the power of personal development with you, just in a small way. I’m starting up a book club especially for people who want more out of life and are interested in personal development through reading as a route to get there. People who refuse to accept that who they are right now is who they’ll always be.

To hear more, just get yourself booked onto my Business Book Club launch event on 5th June. It’s FREE!

The event is open to everyone, not just business owners. The prerequisite is that you want to grow as an individual and want more out of life than you have right now.

“Unless you change how you are, you’ll always have what you’ve got”. Jim Rohn

Unleash your true potential! What a waste it would be not to realise how brilliant you are!
